" LOUIS ORIGINAL" CREAM STRAW/BLACK PATENT BOW PICTURE HAT, Vintage 1962

Description

A luxuriant Black Patent Leather Bow sweeps over the deep cream straw brim of this enchantingly spectacular picture hat by LOUIS ORIGINAL OF CALIFORNIA.
A statement hat, from  l961-62, it personifies vintage glamour -- from its 17 inch widthto the 13 1/2 inch patent leather bow that angles over the right eye.      The deep, 5 1/2 inch brim shades you from the sun and beautifully fames the face and hair. The pleated 2-inch patent band circles the 4 inch crown then dips under the back brim to catch the brim and curl it up at the nape.  See photos for the complex design.
Extraordinary workmanship is visible in construction of the hat -- from the ultra fine weave of the straw, probably Panama, (See top  of crown for detail)   to the manipulation and shaping of the straw.
Condition is near-unworn: straw is immaculate, supple and flawless, as is the patent leather, which actually glows.   Color in photos is much more yellow than actual straw. (Picked up yellow from sunlight.)   Straw is PALE CREAM, almost IVORY.
