All Foams are not equal !!! It is extremely important to know that various foams are processed for many different industries, insulation, packaging, sound buffers, air filtration, bedding, outdoor furniture, etc. Because of their applications, it is practical and also very common for these foams to be processed standard with chemical additives that destroy bacteria. Obviously a presence of such additives would be counter productive to, and have disastrous effects on aquarium biological eco system. With the market saturated with such foams, you must trust that your source (supplier) is mindful of this concern and takes steps to protect your investment. Aqua-Link ADP foam is special ordered in bulk under custom requirements, tailored specifically for safe aquarium use. It is made of a special poly ether material that does not break down under rigorous aquarium conditions. It is custom ordered by Aqua-Link and guaranteed, NOT TO CONTAIN Germicides, UV stabilizers, or fire retardant treatments. Polyether foam blocks/pads are utilized by Aqua-Link for 2 principle purposes;
1. Mechanical filtration in a pre-filter assembly (to filter out medium through large particulates)
2. Bio Media – Is an excellent substrate to cultivate “Anaerobic” bacteria when submersed in a wet dry filter or refugium sump. The low pore count (20 PPI) provides 3 functional advantages that will accelerate Nitro-bacterium growth:
a. Provides an extremely large surface area for bacteria to attach. (Higher surface area than 15 PPI).
b. Dissipates and reduces excessive oxygen from entering the media.
c. The compactness will accomplish its functional goal using only a small portion of the filter unit.
